This year's Hugo Award winners were announced over the weekend during Worldcon in Denver, Colorado. The awards are named for pioneering science fiction entrepreneur Hugo Gernsback, and celebrate the best in SF and fantasy. This year's winner of the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer is Mary Robinette Kowal, a short story writer and puppeteer. Last year, the winner was Naomi Novik, author of the "Temeraire" book series.
