Recently the hit TV show Supernatural has taken some flack from fans.  In the past, the show has taken heat from viewers who protest the image that the show portrays of minorities and women.  Now, the show’s creators have a new minority to worry about: the differently alive.

“The whole premise is offensive to me,” said “Reg Shoe” spokesman for the differently alive.  “Two brothers in a classic car loaded down with chainsaws and hunting things that go bump in the night.  You know what they’re hunting?  Me!”

Shoe cited the season two episode Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things as an example. 

“This poor girl dies as a result of being victimized by her friends.  Then she’s brought back through necromancy to be a plaything for another friend.  Since there is no legal recourse for her to take action she rises up against her circumstances in the only way she can.  And for that she gets staked into her coffin by the heroes and buried un-alive.”

Shoe made tisking sounds while shaking his head.

“And that’s not the only time.  During season four, a group of our kind are awoken when some teens have a party in their crypt.

  As punishment for running the teen agers away the stakes the differently alive in the crypt.  All they were doing was defending their resting place.”

Shoe said that by comparison, his vampire brethren get off light.

“Everyone loves vampires.  They’re portrayed all gothic and sexy.  But when you smell like rotting corpse and you have to sew bits of yoursemf back on, no one wants to be near you.  Even on shows like Supernatural -- where the hunters are supposed to be hunting the vampires -- they get sympathetic portrayal.  Just look at Bloodlust in season 2.  The hunters spare the vampires because they’re humanitarians.  Would they give us similar treatment?  I don’t think so.”

Shoe called for a general boycott of the show and other shows and movies that portray the differently alive in negative ways. He said that his differently alive brethren would consider ending the boycott once the entertainment industry portrays them in a positive light.

“It’s not hard.  Look at Terry Pratchett’s work,” Shoe said. 

As of this posting, there has been no response to Shoe's alligations by either Erik Kripke, the staff of Supernatural or the CW network.
