The next time you think about taping your drunken uncle's rant about how the man is keeping the world down, don't. He might end up a Glenn Beck-like powerbroker, just like Homer does here!

"DON'T TREAD ON PEE"

Kredit Kookies: FLYBY: Magie as baby new year and Grandpa Simpson as old year passing on ascending/descending parachutes.Billboard: A morphing portrait of Mayor Quimby, the first a normal portrait of him with the cheerful slogan ‘Vote for Quimby’.It transitions to show him with a devil’s horns and pitchfork, accompanied by the slogan ‘the devil you’ve known for 18 years’.Chalkboard Gag: TinTin did not SuckSuck.Couch Gag: The Simpsons are participants in a Sherlockian Victorian-era Murder Mystery; Homer is the victim, Bart is the innocent dupe, and Marge is the murderer and Eddie and Chief Wiggum are Watson and Holmes.

After a video of Homer passionately agitating for the right to use an airplane bathroom goes viral, he rapidly finds himself at the forefront of a wave of publicity that makes him a figurehead on a Glenn Beck –like talk show. The family doesn’t quite oppose his new fame, until Mr. Burns pressures him into endorsing a Republican candidate – and he picks 70’s cock-rocker, wildlife hunter and conservative Ted Nugent.

“Politically Inept With Homer Simpson”has a tendency to lean on the shows’ worst qualities and use them to a lengthy extent – too-stupid-to-live, jerkass!Homer, running around screaming ‘don’t tread on pee!’ and liberal strawoman Lisa embarrassed by her father’s views, consume the forefront of the episode. The too-obvious anti-Fox news jokes were the funniest bit of the episode for their clear parody of Glenn Beck; but the Simpsons themselves have already gone over this material in a more sophisticated way during Sideshow Bob Roberts. If you like your political satire heavy-handed, you’ll enjoy these segments.

While his voice work was simply adequate, all credit should be given to Ted Nugent for showing up to collect his paycheck for this episode; the script portrays him in a more than fairly bad light, without any of the affection it’s shown other celebrities during their cameos. In fact, aside from the duet he performs with Homer in the closing credits, gets the same kind of direct hostility the writers showed Bill Clinton in “Saddlesore Galactica” but still showed up to voice his own role (not that you would notice, as he sounds like Hank Azaria doing Ted Nugent at several points).A little bit below-average; after “Days of Future Passed” made such a strong impression, the show would behoove itself to think on such an impressive level more frequently.
